What is Reiki?

Updated: Oct 24, 2023

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese healing method that directly translates as Spiritual Energy. Ourselves and everything around us contains this life force energy - the trees, the ocean, rocks, all living beings.

A Reiki practitioner is someone who has been attuned to this life force energy, allowing them to act as a conduit. This is passed from Reiki Master to student and is part of a long lineage of practice dating back from the early 1900s.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner acts as a channel for the energy to move through them and into the recipient. As Reiki flows through the receiver, it encourages the body to heal itself, helping to unblock and remove stagnant energy, as well as re-balance and realign the Chakra system. Reiki works on all levels: the mind and spirit as well as the body. This modality can be so effective as it can heal at the mental and emotional level as well as the physical.

When the energy within our bodies gets out of balance, problems can sometimes arise. Trouble sleeping, mood changes, fatigue and major illnesses at the extreme. Reiki helps to re-balance and strengthen the flow of energy within the body which can result in decreased pain, improved sleep and a feeling of general well being. It can also address the issues that caused our energy to become unbalanced in the first place, bringing them to the surface to be released in order to feel better and move forward.

Reiki never claims to replace medical treatments, it is a complementary therapy that enhances our natural ability to heal ourselves. Our thoughts, feelings and actions are all energy. Reiki helps to put them back into their natural balance so we can live happier more comfortable lives. Check out the list of services here to see which treatment would suit you best.
